A Talisman is an active cooperation of earthly “beings”: stones, plants, animals and water objects to bring the owner healing. Everything created is sentient and has energy; healing energy. When a Shaman makes a talisman for someone, the Shaman concentrates on what the main issue is that the talisman is meant to help heal. Then the Shaman goes into nature and asks for assistance from Mother Earth to bring together those natural elements who wish to volunteer to help heal the wearer. The natural elements are different in each case. It is the Shaman’s own awareness and connection to the energies of these elements and the elements’ own desire to assist in this healing that bring together the contents of the talisman for that particular person. And remember how they were all gone around the time you started school and had to fit in society's mold? Yes being a Shaman is walking with one foot in this world and one foot in the Inner Worlds. Yes it is precarious and may look at times like some kind of mental illness. That is what your parents saw and what they tried to protect you from. Everyone knows that if you go off your rocker in today's world, your fate is not going to be pretty. Of course your parents would discourage you from doing anything to look the least bit out of line with the norm. They love you! Over 95% of you who are incarnated on this planet at this time have chosen to be a healer. Your choice to be a healer, was made lifetimes ago. You were initiated by elders in your past. You made an oath to be a healer, possibly a Shaman and to help heal yourself and others. And that oath, that promise was made between worlds, not just for that lifetime. It continues through eternity. You wanted it that way. And so we come from one lifetime into the next, very much like a bodhisattva. Are you familiar with a bodhisattva? This is a soul who dedicates his or her life to helping others, to put it too simply. And so you come into each lifetime to help heal but you come without the brain knowledge you had in the previous life. No one, not even Jesus, came into this world with full recall of the past. As an aside, this is the way they try to find the reincarnation of the Buddha. You may know this. They present the little boys with tools and artifacts of the previous Buddha to see if they can recall any of these tools as their own. But even these reincarnations of Buddha himself do not come into this lifetime with full recall of their abilities and skills. Unfortunate! So we have to re-member in each lifetime what gifts we bring with us from lifetime to lifetime to help heal ourselves and others. Often our lives are a series of very rocky experiences. We tend to take the fast train to remembering, the one with shaky times, and abrupt lessons, hard experiences that shake our lives. I bet you have this kind of life. I know I have. We are trying to catch up, to remember quickly, to have enough experiences to unlock the doors so we can practice what we know in our hearts in this lifetime before we die. In Carlos Castanedas' books, Don Juan talks about the four enemies of a Shaman. He says that by the time a person remembers his old ways to heal, he is too old to practice them. In this society, many do not even remember their old ways to heal at all. And worse yet, we have no one here to help us remember. How wonderful it is to find a practicing traditionally trained indigenous Shaman here who can say, "Yes, you have this gift and this gift and this is how to use them!" Or, "Here is your place that you built to work from, your cave, your laboratory and here are all the tools you left in this place for yourself. Get busy and explore them, remember them and get to work!" And I know there are many people, hundreds of thousands, in this world who have made their choice and said their oath between lifetimes to practice loving kindness and give healing to the world. The Shamans, the Bodhisattvas, the Healers. And I know they have no where to turn to get their memories back, to be given the tools, and reminded of the skills and shown the places they have already created to be healers. I really feel their wandering, their uncertainty, their frustration at the dim knowledge they know they have but can't seem to access. And it is this lack of help, this lack of a place to regroup and remember that is causing Shamanism to die. To find it on your own without help is almost impossible, extremely grueling, rough and can be warped and choked out by the natural human tendency to seek money or fame. Sometimes we feel a negative energy around us and do not like this feeling. Some of us are able to astral travel and may encounter all sorts of beings there both human and non human. Is this really an angel? Is this really a guide? How do we know who to trust? There is a specific technique that a Shaman uses to determine if spirits, guides, entities, beings that visit him or her are beneficial or not. It is an ancient technique that has been around as long as Shamanism has been around. It was written in Egyptian papyrus scrolls. It is found in the Book of Thoth, another ancient manuscript. It is found in the Bible. I want to teach it to you now. It is very simple. If you ever find yourself in an encounter with anything that you cannot determine if it is good or bad for you, just ask it three times, “Are you created by the Creator who created me here for my highest good?” Creator means the one who created you, your Source, your God and you can use God or Source instead of Creator if you wish. Everything has some creator but not everything was created by the one who created you. Anything might feel it is for your good, but not necessarily for your highest good. No negative spirit, entity, being, non physical manifestation can answer this question by lying three times in a row. If this is a good spirit, an angel, a guide, a beneficent presence it will recognize that you are being discriminate and careful and will gladly answer yes three times. If it is a thing of negative energy it may lie two times or even try to change the subject, but it not be able to say yes when asked the third time. When it cannot answer the third time do also send it away from you by saying, “Go back to the one who created you.” Put some protection around yourself whether that is a light of protection, the calling in of Creator’s own protection, calling on angels to be with you, however you protect yourself. Why should I protect myself? There are innumerable energies swirling all around us. Everything is energy. We are immersed in a huge sea of energy. Energy itself is neither good nor bad. But energy can be made positive or negative. A negative thought or intention can be sent out into this sea of energy and travel like a radio wave in space. A positive thought or intention does the same. These energies are created by that thought or intention and they never are uncreated, they never wear out and die. So imagine all the thoughts and intentions in the universe that have ever been created. Wow! Why let all those thought energies bombard you? No need. Why not just let those positive energies that can benefit you be the ones you allow into your energy field and protect yourself from all the rest. A Shaman keeps a bubble of protection around him or herself at all times. It is not because the Shaman feels threatened or is in danger. It is just because we simply do not need all these errant energies affecting us. There are many ways to protect yourself from errant energies. One way to visualize that you are inside a soap bubble. This soap bubble is always with you, always around you as long as you want it to be. You only have to think of it to know it is there. Inside this soap bubble is the pure white light of Creator, of Source. It is beautiful and sacred and is actually the love of Creator for you that you have always had since before you were born. The outside of this bubble you can visualize as a kind of semi permeable teflon material. It is a very fine mesh that keeps out negative energy and only allows in energy that benefits you, good energy. This is your bubble, your space, your self, where you are safe and secure and always in the presence of Creator who has always been with you. It is really a beautiful space to have around yourself and I want you to know this gift and feel it in your daily life. Just remember this bubble in the morning and at night as you lie down to sleep.
