They are not canvas. The white tarp weighs .30 lbs/sq. yd. The silver tarp weighs .35 lbs/sq. yd.  (About 6 ounces.) White allows a significant amount of light to come through and is more festive for weddings and big parties.      11. You can have a more expensive dome tent up to 30 feet wide using a 50 ft tarp wide. IT is best for long term set up where there is little chance for water ponding or wind problems.
